Hi! I've had this product for a few years and when it works, it's heaven. But my problem is this: out of the blue, more often than not, it becomes severely unstable and just does not work for some of the standard commands. Stuff like applying a label to a source clip, or wanting to set Show Clip Keyframes to Scale... To a point where I have stopped using it in the last year or so, thinking the problem was requiring a software update.

And then last week, browsing the web, coming across some Excalibur rah-rah demos, I thought to myself I should give it a spin again. And so I did: removed everything, trashed preferences and a json file (from a Support article) and oh! Magic! It worked for that session.

That was last week. Left it untouched, but today I needed it and ... well, it's broken. I can't do basic stuff like the above.

I'm on Windows 11, fairly decent machine, running the latest/greatest version of AdobeCC. I've switched boxes in the last year, but it was already buggy on my previous set-up...

Thanks for any help/pointers you can give.

aduroche do you have other extensions installed?
Can you list commands that don't work for you, so far it is:

    • Label
    • Show clip keyframes
      What else doesn't work?

Sir_Ivan , thanks for your reply Sir Ivan.

I want to say "general funkyness"... or perhaps there are some PEBCAK issues in there, or miscomprehension of some features, but here goes.

This morning, Labels seem to work, but on and off... Select a clip in sequence > call up Label color change > select color > Enter... nothing on the 1st attempt. On the second attempt, I selected a source clip in the project panel and did the same; the label change did not occur on the selected source, but rather on the previous selection in the sequence... On the 3rd attempt, with nothing selected in the sequence, again selecting a clip in project panel and calling out the Label change, nothing happens; but Premiere's focus (e.g. the blue outline) has switched from Project Panel to Sequence Panel -- so I assume this tool is meant to be used in sequence only? But then why does it only seldom work if that's the case...

I recall having built a really powerful macro that was doing a bunch of operations from matching, reverse matching, replacing shots, etc., that worked beautifully but would also stop working and do undesired moves in the process with improper selections and stuff. One other thing that often did not work for me were introducing delays in such macros. Again, it's been over a year that I more or less left this app on the sidelines now so I haven't tested that since then.

      Not working this morning:
Show Clip Keyframes when there is no keyframe, but I tried it again after adding a Scale keyframe, and the option of going to viewing Scale works, but you can't go back to position or Opacity for example if they are on their Default values... Bug? Tried it with the keyboard's up/down keys + "Enter" as well as with the mouse/pointer... I did get it once to go to "Position" kfs even though they were on Default, but that was once in 5 attempts.

Undo does not always undo what Excalibur just did... Not sure if that is normal or not (I know, I should read your doc.).

      Working:
The Sequence Duplicator + Archive; solo/lock/mute tracks, and a few others that I tried out of the blue.

Of course, things are not so bad this morning now that I want to report all the issues, LOL... But I sware, there are days where nothing works basically, I try 2 or 3 functions and when I see they don't work, I just forget your wonderful app.

In terms of installed Extensions, unsure if you only want to know Excalibur's or others, but here's the complete listing: Anchor, Arrow, Grave Robber, Beat Edit / Quick Importer / Still Exporter, LogiOptions+ (Logitech), PowerSearch / Transcriptive Rough Cutter and finally Text Replacer.

Let me know if you need more info or what I should be doing next. Catching up on all the gems in this app., I'd really like to have it back in my arsenal!

      Best, --Alain

aduroche seems to me that mostly commands that use some kind of API workaround (like triggering shortcuts or menu items) might not work correctly for you.

Excalibur is indeed a timeline centric extension. It is meant to work with timeline. If something else works, it is by accident.

What version of Excalibur do you use?

This morning, Labels seem to work, but on and off...

Label command needs a clip to be selected on a timeline. If it doesn't work constantly, would it be possible for you to record a screen with that issue and send me to support@knightsoftheeditingtable.com.

Do you put mouse over a clip, when using this command? This command is a very silly workaround, that just calls right click menu, so mouse should be over clip every time you use it.

If you could test Wait command again and let me know if it works, that would be great.

aduroche Undo does not always undo what Excalibur just did... Not sure if that is normal or not (I know, I should read your doc.).

Are you talking about Excalibur Undo or Premiere Undo? There is a difference, since not all Excalibur actions get recorded by history stack:

        Timeline-centric: got it, makes sense.

As I wrote initially, I reinstalled everything fresh and zapped prefs and json file last week, as I installed the latest/greatest 1.2.2 version.

Label: I typically select the clip in timeline (or it's automatically selected if I enabled that Premiere Pref.), so it's highlighted, and then I call up Excalibur via my shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+X); I don't focus on hovering the pointer over the clip if that is a full-blown requirement... :-/ Just tested it, and the success rate has indeed increased, I will test it out some more. It does not seem to work if I just point over a clip and I don't select it; so I need to select the clip + leave the mouse over it? (that seems to work constantly this way)

Wait: will do. Undo: ugh... Yeah, my bad. I was undoing via Premiere, not Excalibur's Undo, I had forgotten about that one.

I'm in a crunch right now but if I do get to record videos, do I email directly or must I start a thread on this forum?

        Thanks for the replies!

Label: you always need to select clip(s), this way Excalibur knows which clip to modify.
But you don't need to put mouse over it. It is only for "Show Clip Keyframes" command (it is the only weird command Excalibur has, in my point of view).

You can send here or to support@knightsoftheeditingtable.com

Oh! Sorry I mixed up Labels and "Show Clip Keyframes" on the mouse hovering...

But FYI, just tried it: sequence clip selected (with no set KF, all default settings), mouse over it, called up Excalibur (CTRL+SHIFT+X) and then "Show Clip Keyframes" (any option) -- no change in status.

aduroche when you will have time please record your screen, I will take a look!
