The help says selecting a folder in the project and Alt+clicking the watchtower's folder button will sync it, but that doesn't seem to work at all.

What I want is a real-time synchronization of folders in an existing project to the watchtower. Is this possible? Instead of calling a folder from Watchtower, it is a live synchronization of an existing folder.

    Good day Sir Freud.

sigmund The help says selecting a folder in the project and Alt+clicking the watchtower's folder button will sync it, but that doesn't seem to work at all.

What do you mean by doesn't work? What happens after you alt+click and what do you expect?

sigmund What I want is a real-time synchronization of folders in an existing project to the watchtower. Is this possible? Instead of calling a folder from Watchtower, it is a live synchronization of an existing folder.

What do you mean by "calling a folder from Watchtower" and "real-time synchronization"?

Sir_Ivan The function I want is not to add a sync folder to the watchtower, but vice versa to replace my existing folder with a sync folder. When adding a folder as a function of Watchtowe A duplicate folder with the same name is created.

      Sir_Ivan

What I'm talking about is the same as in this photo. I didn't understand the obvious solution through the answers in this article.

If I had used Watchtower before creating the project template, it would have worked without any problem, but I just wanted to synchronize the folders in the project without duplicate folders using the existing project template as Watchtower.

Sir_Ivan The projects and footage I use are saved in the same way as using After Effects' collection function. When I open the project, the footage folders and sequences that I have organized are opened, and the watchtower seems to be a function to add and synchronize a (new) folder to be synchronized, not a function to synchronize an existing folder. Synchronization Even though the folder and the existing folder have the same name, they are not combined, but are divided into two separate folders, the old footage folder and the (new) sync folder.

      Sir_Ivan
Oh, I think I know how to solve it. If you move the files in the existing folder (old) to the duplicate folder created by Watchtower, even if you sync and refresh again, it works as if it was added to Watchtower. I want this feature because I put the footage in the sequence and use it as a template using copy-paste.

As an example that I can give, it is as if the folder is not changed or newly created for a file that is offline as footage media, and only the path is changed while the file itself is maintained within the project. I know that this is an absolute path and a relative path, but before that, Watchtower recognizes the existing folder in the project as a duplicate, and synchronizes the changes in the existing folder without creating a new folder (the act of adding a new file). wanted to do

I know my explanation was very lacking. However, I asked Watchtower if there is a function to merge and write existing folders that I have previously organized in the project without duplicate folders. T_T..

      Lets use these names:
Bin - a folder inside Premiere Pro
Folder - a folder in your file browser (Finder/Explorer)

You can link existing bin to a folder. To do this select bin and alt+click on bin icon in Watchtower.
It will link only that bin, if you have other bins inside, they should be linked separately (so it is better to start from inside out).
E.g. you have this bin structure:

      • Assets
        • Video
        • Audio

      and this folder structure:

      • Assets
        • Video
        • Audio

After you link Assets bin to Assets folder, Watchtower will import Video, Audio folders and create duplicate bins, because Watchtower doesn't make assumptions and links bins because they have same names as folders (for user safety).

@sigmund based on my explanation, what didn't work for you and what would like to see different in current Watchtower logic?

Sir_Ivan The help I saw is the same. The part that doesn't work for me is
It was a function to connect the default storage to a 'folder'. However, when I rebooted the computer and reinstalled Watchtower, a window called a link started appearing as if a window with alt+click was connecting Premiere Offline.

There seems to be a bug in my watchtower where the window linking the default repository does not appear. But this is now resolved.

And I wish the help linking the default existing bin had a video or simply explained how to do it with pictures. This is because I knew that this function was a function that automatically synchronizes everything by pressing alt+click to 'watchtower folders'. This is not shown in any of the Watchtower's videos. It only explains the principle of 'adding' and synchronizing.

Sir_Ivan Oh, there is one more thing I want to ask. If you link as instructed, if you click the Select Folder button on the watchtower to confirm, the green checkmark does not appear to indicate that synchronization is taking place.

As you said I have another bin inside the bin and the folder I want to sync is as described

(Premiere's BIN has the same layout)

          [folder bin]
          ㄴ[Video Effects bin]
          ㄴ[audio sound effect bin]
          ㄴ[Other image sources bin]

As you said, I hung a link from the BIN inside the BIN to the outside and pressed the selection folder of the watchtower to confirm that it was properly synchronized, but I could not confirm whether it was synchronized properly.

However, if you add a new file to the Explorer folder, it works as if you added it as a watchtower.
For what reason and where am I doing wrong?

I really feel like I need a video.

The most obvious solution I've ever had is to add files or folders from the premiere to the watchtower from the beginning, or move files from my existing bin to the folder added as watchtower.

But this is only true for people like me who don't have that many files. In many cases, people who use this method as a "previous project template" have no choice but to scream.

"Watchtower doesn't make assumptions and links bins because they have same names as folders (for user safety). "

          I don't think there's a function I want because of this part.
I think the solution I have is the best compromise.

Because I wanted to link the BIN to the explorer folder.

As a result, the best solution I've ever had was...

"Putting files from existing bin into redundant folders added as watchtowers" was the best way. Can I conclude that this is the result of blocking a complete link to the bin for user safety?

Also, I hope there is a function that allows users to search and view only 'synchronized folders' when selecting a watchtower folder.

Some users synchronize individual folders one by one.
If the function already exists, you can ignore this story.

This is because not everyone creates a footage folder and collects the required sources within that folder.

Sir sigmund would you like to have a screen share call? I think it will help me understand you workflow better, as well I can explain you "link existing bin" feature.

Sir_Ivan Oh, that's good, but do you have any plans to make a video for people like me? I would like you to make a more definite explanation of the principles and a video that points out the functions that are not explained in the basic video.

sigmund write me to support@knightsoftheeditingtable.com, so we can arrange a talk.

I would like to make videos about each small detail of Watchtower and Excalibur, but whenever I make any video it breaks my coding flow and I tend more to create updates and add new features.
Let's talk first, I need to understand what is going on in your case, based on that I will update manuscript.

Following this thread — mind recording the call (or a section of it at the end) if it turns out to be fruitful? I think I have a similar issue, though not really a big deal for my flow, but would be cool to see.

And I fully support more time coding less time making YT videos, fwiw! We are all thankful! 🙂

                    Sir_Ivan

In my case, it's actually takes more time to link than just manually import them...

syterpk what do you mean by that? How do you link folders, via Select Folders dialog?
