Zoom Timeline in and out commands possible?

Hi, I’m new to Excalibur and have been checking out all the cool functions. One of my biggest pet peeves about Premiere is that it doesn’t have commands that will zoom in and out of the timeline window regardless which window is in focus.

It’s such a minor thing, but multiple times a day I accidentally zoom in or out in the source or program window and it bugs me! If it could be done maybe it would save the sanity of a few other people as well, lol.

I should mention that I have tried to do this with macros, but the problem comes about when I have multiple timelines open. Using the Timelines keyboard shortcut can cause Premiere to jump to a different timeline. I just want a command that allows me to discreetly zoom in or out of the timeline that is currently open regardless where the focus is.

By zoom, do you mean enter full screen mode for a selected panel?

Sir_Ivan No, I mean making the timeline contents appear larger or smaller. The default keyboard shortcuts are - and =. The problem with those shortcuts is that if you have a different window selected it will zoom them instead of the timeline, which is something I never want to do.

What I would like is a command that would:

1) Check if the timeline is in focus
-If it is in focus move to step 2
-If it isn't in focus then change the focus to the timeline
2) Execute the "Zoom In" command

And another that would execute the "Zoom Out" command instead.

Joekun I have feature request to add "Focus current timeline" command.
For now I suggest this user command:

press shortcut to activate Project panel (default: shift+1)
press shortcut to activate Timeline panel (default: shift+3)
press shortcut to Zoom In/Out

With this user command you won't switch timelines as it happens when timeline is active already and you press shift+3

Sir_Ivan I tried the method you suggested, and there is a downside. Selecting the project window changes what is going into your timeline. For example:

I keep my footage loaded in a sequence in the source monitor so that I can use the insert and overwrite commands to put the footage I want into the timeline. But using the project window shortcut causes the clip highlighted in the project window to become what is going into the timeline. So now I have to manually click the source monitor before making an edit. I tried using the source monitor command instead, but that causes Premiere to cycle through different sources. Maybe there is another window that wouldn’t cause this issue. I’ll have to investigate.

Joekun oh, ok, maybe yes, another panel would be better to switch to (e.g. Effects Control panel)
