Cut/trim the begging of selected clips by selected value

Hi. I apologize for my English – I haven’t use it since high school but i hope You will understand what i have in mind. 🙂

Im looking for solution to trim beginning and end of selected clips on specific track by specific value.

Let's say I have synchronized sequence, with long gimbal shots at the bottom and the close-ups above.

The close-ups are above gimbal - its hundreds of files with different durations (5 seconds, 10, 15 etc).

I saw on YouTube that in Your plugin it is possible to set this closeups' duration to selected value.

What I want is to cut/trim the begging of selected close-ups by selected value.

Let's say I want to cut 1 second in the begging, and 2 seconds from the end.

The idea is to automatically delete the shakiness of the footage caused by pushing the record button on camera that is used for close-ups.

Is it possible for you to record your screen when you perform these actions manually, with 2-3 clips in the row. I think I understand what you need, but still would like to see the whole picture 🙂

I tried to describe and mark the activities on the on video by different colors.

In fact, what i'm doing is basicaly shortening the start and end of the shots from "red" camera with the computer mouse.

Doing it with several hundred files is a real pain. 🙂

In previous years, I tested a script for the "ffmpeg" program, which would cut the ends of the files, but it duplicated the last frames of the shots, so I still had the same amount of work.

What I suggest is to use is a temp clip overwrite technique. You create a black video that will be cut in parts by close-up clips and then after some adjustments, this black video will trim parts of close-up clips.

It can be done manually (pretty fast), but also, if you don't want to remember the process, you can create a user command for that:
note: playhead should be a the in point of first close-up clip (you can create a combination of keyboard shortcut presses for that as well, I didn't and performed that step manually)
edit, note2: there should be an empty track above close up clips

Target Video Tracks. Action: un-Target all tracks
Target Audio Tracks. Action: un-Target all tracks
Target Video Tracks. Action: Target tracks: 4 (empty video track)
New Item: Black Video
Select All Clips after Playhead. Apply to all targeted tracks (by default Black Video should be selected after added to timeline, but for some reason it is not stable, seems API doesn't refresh properly. This will make sure black video is selected)
Duration: 999999 (in frames. Should be something long, so it covers all clips)
Select Clip Below
Select All Clips after Playhead. Apply to Tracks with selected clips
Keyboard Shortcut: cmd+C (copy)
Paste Clip: On the highest enabled track (paste all close-ups on track with black video, to split black video in parts. Close-ups will act as trimmers for start, black video clips as trimmers for end)
Select All Clips before Playhead. Apply to All Targeted tracks
Extend Selection: Right (to select the rightmost black clip, which was left out of selection)
Duration: 100 (should be a doubled value of desired trim. 100 means trim will be 50 frames at the start and end of clip)
Move left 50 frames (custom user command, multiple Keyboard Shortcut presses: cmd+shift+left (nudge clip selection left five frames))
Keyboard Shortcut: opt+Down (nudge clip selection down)
Keyboard shortcut: Delete (clear selected clips)

That looks great!

But I have another question.

In the gif you send, you create a "black video" or "solid" with is video only (no audio track).

If I create some long video with audio, will it cut audio also?

Im just want to be sure 🙂

gigacz I think for audio this will work as well, just replace black video with bars and tone. Also add empty track above audio (so it will be 1,2,4 - audio tracks, 3 - empty audio track), this way nudge down keyboard shortcut will work the same for both video and audio.
