Would be cool if excalibur offered a macro to do this....

  • would create keyframes at beginning and end of clip and zoom in/out by desired percentage
  • If applied to multiple clips, also an option to alternate parameters (i.e., 1st image zooms in, next out and so forth)

dhj At the moment you could use Effect Presets (use scale for keyframes positions). Create bunch of them: 105%, 110%, 115%. And apply them to multiple clips with Excalibur.
But overall it is an interesting idea! Something like a Zoom In/Zoom Out command.

dhj If applied to multiple clips, also an option to alternate parameters (i.e., 1st image zooms in, next out and so forth)

Not sure about this one, too much tweaking ๐Ÿ™‚
By that I mean that I try to make Excalibur to solve big problems and I would love to leave small details to users.

      Sir_Ivan cool, thanks...

Here's one potential issue with that approach in case its helpful for how you think about how to design a zoom-like option in general...

I recently had to do a ken burns montage with images that were not all sized the same and had varying aspect ratios. So before applying keyframes for zooming, all the photos had to be positioned without black bars (love the "fill"command for this, BTW). So, the % preset idea you mentioned might get kind of fiddly because the starting point for each photo may vary and not be 100% to begin with...

All to say, if excalibur where able to facilitate applying "zoom" by a percentage that uses the initial scale setting as the basis, that may be interesting. In other words, zooming by "10%" would take a clip scaled at 100% to 110%, but a clip already scaled at something more arbitrary, like 41%, would go to a Premiere scale setting of 45.1%.

Also, I hear you about things getting too tweaky. That said, if it were possible to auto-create keyframes on the first and last frame of clips, that might be helpful. Though i realize this may be too niche. I'm new to premiere, so i don't necessarily have an appreciation for how much some of these ideas may be useful to others (or if there are other/better ways that already exist to do some things).

oh, "%" issue is a great point, Sir @dhj!
Well, that is enough to convince me to add "Zoom In/Out" command to Excalibur without further review, it will work with current clip scale, so it will be relative to it, not absolute.

      a year later

When I create a photo slideshow in premiere, usually for a wedding if there's no filming allowed in the Church, I would love a simple zooming in effect I could add to each photo. The built in functionality and all the plugins available all require keyframing the start and end. And this means every time you change the length of the clip, you have to alter the keyframes, this changes the speed of the zoom and the feel, and you have to go back and adjust things all over again. I would ideally like to simply set a centre point to zoom towards, a zooming rate and a start size and position. Then when I change clip length I wouldn't have to go in and alter those pesky keyframes. I tried coding this myself but got lost. Do you think it's something that would be useful to others or possible to create without too much hassle?
